Birthdays in Umbria are celebrated, but generally only important ones.  Presents on birthdays are not an Umbrian tradition; Aylia's family celebrates birthdays with them, but that's because of the influence of Aylia's mother, who is, of course, trying to make sure her children don't miss out on any part of childhood she wishes she had.  In case you can't tell, that's a piece of cake Felincia's holding; she got the "HA" from "HAPPY BIRTHDAY, FELINCIA!"  Loretta probably baked that cake.
