Tempermentally, witches tend to be rather antisocial, as well, since the nature of the magic tends to appeal to people who don't like other people very much.  It doesn't rely on anything social, being riddled with unexplainable discoveries each individual has to make, and it does require a lot of time spent with nature, animals, and weather, which can serve to isolate a person from society even if they weren't antisocial to begin with.
