Aylia knowing an Oracle, for instance, is relevant because this teacher mentioned magic systems unique to various species, and Oracle/Sage magic is unique to humans.  On the other hand, as Aylia's father's derision implied, it's rare for entering students to get teaching assistantships, because there tend to be so many other applicants who are much more qualified.  The life experience Aylia has is certainly impressive-sounding when phrased right, but it's not the same as real qualifications.
