The first panel of this strip is kind of an inside joke, though I did rewrite my original wording to make it less confusing to everyone who wouldn't get it (namely, almost everybody out there).  See, my medieval club in college had this weird running joke that we could talk about everything in the Middle Ages at the meetings -- except for 1413 China.  Nobody seems to know quite how that tradition got started, but it's one of those random things that was so weird I just had to pay homage to it.
