Magical items like transportation pendants (or invisibility pendants, like the modified ones Aylia created for Alexis and X) are one of the things wizards use to support themselves, if they choose to make a living out of magic.  You could infuse almost any object with magic, of course, but pendants are the most common magical objects you'll find, because they're small and handy, they're easy to activate, and they're easy to hide if you want to keep them hidden.
