By the way, this aspect of Reg's character -- him being a good friend of Loretta's -- is not something that came out of nowhere.  I figured out that he and Loretta had grown up in the same neighorhood when I figured out what his family was like, and while I originally thought they might just know each other from high school, I soon realized it would fit them both really well to be good friends.  They have fairly similar personalities, after all!  (Not that you would realize that from first glance . . .)
