(More head-banging on desk.)  I mean, seriously, if X had to come up with a lie, she could have chosen something that wouldn't make nice people feel sorry for her and feel they should help fix it.  Of course an ordinary fairy would consider such a situation horrifying -- especially if she learned that X is too heavy to fly with her wings!  And as for Daria, while she can get distracted easily, she does like to help, whether or not her help would be greatly appreciated.  X can be really dense about social things.
