Aylia's father has an . . . odd perspective of his own.  See, he doesn't actually like his wife -- in fact, he tends to find her quite exasperating.  But he's a pigheadedly stubborn person, so while he'll disagree with her in private, he'll back up anything she wants publically.  He has this really twisted idea that that's what being a "good husband" means -- as opposed to things like discussion, compromise, or demonstrating real affection for her.  So he's not that great a person himself, even if he's not as horrid a parent.
