Aylia's mother really is astonishingly clueless.  Despite the fact that she met Felincia back in Strip #1,236, she not only doesn't recognize this "puppy" as the one from back then, she refuses to believe Aylia's blatant warning that they are, in fact, the same person.  I have to admit, I really love this strip -- Lettie's complete obliviousness to anything that doesn't fit her own view of reality can be great fun to write, especially when contrasted with Aylia's quick thinking and intelligence.  (Grin.)
