I've been meaning to bring up the subject of magical swords in one of Loretta's classes for ages, but couldn't fit it in anywhere till now.  There are several very good reasons why people don't just use magical swords -- or magical anythings -- on most battlefields, and Kurthan points them out.  I realized that if flashy magic was a useful weapon in war, swordsmen like Kurthan wouldn't exist, so I had to figure out why it wasn't commonly used.  It's far cheaper and easier to just invest in pointy things to kill people.
