Now, Loretta did bring Lionel thinking he would, you know, join the class in trying to learn something from Kurthan.  She's not exactly going to be humiliated if he doesn't, because her concern for their teacher's feelings isn't that high, but she wasn't anticipating him to act quite as distractingly and rowdily as he is.  Lionel's far too excited about finally getting to be in her class to want to sit still or act like a decent student, however, especially since he loves attention and sees this as his only chance to get it from these people.
