So scanning things in this new way does add several more steps to the lettering process, which ups the time it takes to do each strip, but I've decided that time is now worth it.  It's a little weird to see my original lineart almost perfectly preserved online now -- I've gotten so used to seeing it slightly distorted that seeing it like this on my computer now seems odd.  I hope this will be a change that's not jarring for anyone else, however, and that it will stay a change for the better -- permanently.
