Considering the implications of that unforgiving grading system, Loretta rightfully becomes indignant. But Elan is also right when she points out the reason for it: this school is not meant to train students to be merciful or to expect mercy, it's meant to train students to get things right, preferably the first time. Unfortunately, this can make for an unpleasant school environment -- I certainly wouldn't want to attend a place of education with that attitude, yech! And I doubt Loretta would want to, either.
