I've planned parties three times, and all three times have been horrible experiences.  I do not enjoy organizing people, I am not social in large groups, and I hate cleaning up after people who can't be bothered to throw their own trash away, especially in my own home.  Blech!  That said, I greatly enjoy the regular roleplaying group my friends and I hold; everything is comfortable and on-task, people are considerate, and the group is just the right size (about five or six people, usually).  But large parties are not my thing.
