Of course Loretta would think species is an important detail to mention when introducing someone, especially where species such as dragons are concerned.  The only expectations she would have regarding a species called "dragons," even if she read a lot of fantasy novels, would be along the lines of "big and reptilian and probably carnivores."  Of course, all of those things are correct in this case, but there are also quite a few stories in which dragons are human-eating monsters around.
