One reason I always meant for Daria to become a roommate was that I was dying to make her an engineering major.  It's the logical conclusion to her being obsessed with machines and knowing someone who goes to school in our world, after all!  (Grin.)  The other big reason is that she's the character based on one of my two best friends, who was once a roommate of mine.  (The character based on my other best friend is X, who was once a roommate of mine, too.  Explains a lot, doesn't it?  ^_-)
