Elsseran isn't like Aylia's mom; she doesn't see anything wrong with magic or having her daughters study it, though she isn't thrilled that X likes using it to make explosions.  But she is very cautious about letting other people use magic around her daughters, and with good reason.  Corinn comes from a family with a track record for using magic incautiously, and her younger brother isn't all that careful with it himself!  She's probably seen more magical accidents firsthand than she'd like to.
