The debate Aylia has to be in is modeled after one I had to do back in junior high.  It was a stupid debate -- my partner spent the entire time talking about UFOs, and the rest of my classmates were so closed-minded that they voted almost unanimously in favor of the other team, even though their arguments were worse than ours (and that's saying something).  It's irritating when people have already made up their minds against you without even giving you a chance, isn't it?
