The mountain clan of Gorgons, which is geographically closest to Umbria, is the one our Gorgon is from.  It's fairly far away, and is ruled by a theocracy.  The ocean clan lives on a number of different islands all across the world, and its society is mostly tribal.  The desert clan is the furthest away from Umbria, and it's a warlike empire that rules its part of the world almost exclusively.  There are very few humans, mermaids, or fairies in that part of the world.
