I was a little unsure of whether or not I should do this strip at first.  After all, X is a Chemistry major -- she's been a Chemistry major from the very beginning.  Did I really want to give her a second major?  Even if it was microbiology?  I hemmed and hawed over it for a long time, but finally decided I liked this strip as it was, so I kept it.  It's not like it's out of X's character, after all.  Besides, I have . . . other reasons for keeping it . . . (mysterious grin).
